Although Christian Bale won the Oscar for best Supporting Actor, Geoffrey Rush must have been close behind him.

The roles were different, but I think Rush’s might have been the more difficult.  I’m not saying Bale didn’t deserve the award, since his role in The Fighter is probably his best so far.  But there was something about Rush’s role in The King’s Speech.

Before anyone accuses me of Anglophilia in this matter, I should point out that Christian Bale is British while Geoffrey Rush is Australian.

They both deserved the nomination, and I’m not sad Bale won.  But Rush did a wonderful job, too.
