I wasn’t able to watch the Oscars last night, but they seemed to have mostly turned out as I thought they would. I was expecting The Artist to win big, and it did.
I’ve been finding it harder and harder to get excited about the Oscars. The last time I remember looking forward to watching the show would have been the year The Return of the King was up for thirteen awards.
I did miss watching it this year, but I also wish I cared more. I do hope the host was better than last year, because that was a bit of a disaster.

I admit, the huge thrill I used to get from the anticipation for the Oscars has dwindled since the Lord of the Rings made its sweep!
BUT, as soon as I sat down infront of the screen, they started showing clips of actors and directors and writers and all other behind-the-scenes geniuses stating what it is about the movies that has touched their lives in some profound way and why they love what they do. Every single one of them of course talked about the first movie they saw on the big screen as a kid and/or the exact moment when they said “I wanna do that when I grow up!” It was endearing, my heart melted, and I was reminded that beyond all the hoop-la and endless talk about “who’s wearing the worst or best fashion” or “who was able to put the greatest money and propaganda out there in order to promote themselves and win the oscar”, the bottom line is that the Oscars is ultimately a celebration of the arts on screen. It’s as simple as that, and I think it’s a beautiful thing!
Oh… and Billy Crystal always does a great job! I’ll never forget the section of the video he put together for the 2004 Oscars in which he was dressed up as Legolas and was taking on the Oliphaunts!! I still get a giggle from that!
